I have had iglu since april 1999. It was originally a pub I had with my flatmate Aubrey and we were inspired to call it Aubrey's Bar.
My friend Aubrey left to run his Dad's Ndali Lodge in Uganda so I changed the place about a bit. We are in a cute house in historic World Heritage Newtown and I wanted a new name that reflected that we were in a little house. We found the dictionary definition of Iglu (inuit spelling!) - there is commonly a community iglu where inuit gather for song and debate. So sorry no whale blubber - just fantasticly honest food using local seasonal produce.
Iglu has been in the Michelin guide for its food and has won many awards for its Scottish food. There are some fantastic deals to be had - 2 courses for £12 at lunchtimes and early evening. Please click here for Iglu's website

We run whisky tastings and whisky evenings at Iglu.
